RCE Mission

RCE Czechia aims to support incremental changes towards sustainability in formal and informal education using a step-by-step approach. Thus, small and achievable steps will be planned and realized cooperatively or individually by RCE members in educational praxis, based on their existing experiences and capacities.

DSC4084WHAT IS A REGIONAL CENTRE OF EXPERTISE (RCE)?

Established by the United Nations University Institute for the Advanced Study of Sustainability (UNU-IAS) in 2003, Regional Centers of Expertise developed out of a project for Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) after the United Nations Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) stressed the need to reorient existing education towards sustainability. The ESD project designed and implemented research and development activities through two flagship initiatives: a global multi-stakeholder global network of Regional Centers of Expertise on ESD (RCEs) and a network of higher education institutions. Currently, over 157 RCEs have been officially acknowledged by the United Nations University worldwide.

RCE Vision

RCEs aspire to translate global objectives into the context of the local communities in which they operate. RCEs are committed to further generating, accelerating and mainstreaming ESD by implementing the Global Action Program on ESD and by contributing to the realization of the UN Sustainable Development Goals.

RCE Mission

RCEs help prepare local leaders of tomorrow with the tools and information they need to make smart and sustainable choices for the future. RCE efforts encourage innovation and new approaches to sustainable development. They translate existing knowledge into concrete actions and empower individuals to make sustainable choices for themselves and their communities
